Wintertime

Wintertime

Wintertime – it’s a long time between Christmas and Easter and it’s too cold to camp, so a weekend at Tom Bell hostel at Hebden Hey. It was a pretty miserable at the start, but the Cubs didn’t have any problems going out to play and getting wet and muddy. It brightened up on the Saturday afternoon so we walked up to Heptonstall and visited the ruins of the old church. We set the Cubs a task; find the gravestone of “King” David Hartley, the founder of the Cragg Coiners, who was hanged at Tyburn in 1770. Quite by chance I found it almost immediately, but the Cubs looked in all the wrong places!

We made our own t-shirt designs and held a competition for the one that we thought the nest – the prize? Rachel’s designed t-shirt!

After tea and a short night hike in the woods, we settled down to watch a couple of films and eat popcorn.

The Cubs cooked Sunday breakfast – bacon butties – yum! The weather had improved and while the kids played outside, the leaders packed up.
