Jamboree on the Air 2023. It was not a well-attended event this year as the calendar had JOTA and our anniversary on different weekends – they are usually on the same one and we make a full weekend of it. Still, a number did come along to an afternoon of communications. We ran the event at Steep Land Baptist Church as usual – a great location, high up on a hillside with good accomodation.
We looked at codes, morse code (one scout did really well at this), played with PMR walkie-talkies and the highlight was being able to talk to other Cubs & Scouts by amateur radio. Our radio team chased a JOTA station on Jersey on 7.160MHz (GB9LNB) but we suspect our antenna was set up in the wrong direction so they could not hear us. We had to content ourselves with a more local contact on 145.325MHz in Leeds (GB2RVA).
We would like to thank Max (G4SDX), Dean (G4DBI) & Colin (2E0HQJ) of the Halifax & District Amateur Radio Society for taking the time to come and run this event for us.
