First Cub Hike after Lockdown

After the success of the Scout hike a few weeks ago we felt confident to take the Cubs out. We choose a fine day and followed the same route as the Scouts had done – 8 Cubs turned. An easy 5.2 mile Sunday afternoon stroll – yes Cubs can walk this far without any problems; in fact, they were faster than the Scouts! Lunch this time was on Highlee Lane, I say lunch but it should have been just a snack. Each Cub seemed to have enough food for 3 days!

The weather had been fine for the past few weeks, so the muddy parts of the old railway track had dried out a lot, which made walking easier.

Cub hikes are usually planned with a park somewhere on the route and time was spent on the swings and zip wire at Norland Park.

The return route to Sowerby Bridge down the fields from the old Blue Ball pub (sadly closed for many years now) had a steep grassy field know to us as “Roll Down Hill” as Cubs take their rucksacks off and roll down it!
