On Sunday 8th September at the monthly parade service at St Paul’s, the Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Ann Martin, presented the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award to one of our Explorer Scouts and young leader, Clair Taylor.
Clair has had to do many things to get this award including a four day expedition on foot in “wild country” and a residential stay away from home working on a project with people that she doesn’t know. Another thing she had to do was 18 months of voluntary work, for this she chose …

Saturday 1st June saw the Garden Party taking place at Warley House Gardens. This is an annual event run by St Paul’s Church Sowerby Bridge, together with other churches in the Methodist circuit. The Cubs and Scouts take part in running some of the games.
The weather was good, but numbers seemed to be down on previous years, probably due to it being held on the last weekend of the bank holiday week. Still £4,100 was raised for Methodist and local charities.

St George’s Day parades were once a common thing, but of late seem to have not been happening in our district. We were asked, just a few months before, if we would host and organize one for this year.
Tony, our GSL, took up the gauntlet and made lots of phone calls, filled in numerous multi page application forms, liaised with the police; permission to close some roads was finally granted.

The Scout and Guide anniversary was held on Sunday 21st October 2012.
This date marks 80 years of Scouting at St Paul’s, or Tuel Lane Methodist as it it was formerly called.
In the after noon we had games and activities for all the kids, both Scouts & Guides alike on the playing fields at Dixie Wood.
An evening parade took place at St Paul’s, unfortunately the parade was limited to parading around the outside of the church. We stopped the traditional Sunday parades from Clay Street Rec a number of years ago …
