Towers of Paper

Towers of Paper

The task tonight was for each team to build the tallest free-standing tower, using only the supplied newspaper and roll of sticky tape. The tower would also have to be strong enough to support my big bunch of keys.

The team leaders were told that they were not allowed to use their hands, and could only give instruction on what to do.

The winning team’s tower, shown here, was not very high, but it was free-standing and easily held my keys. Unfortunately the other teams had gone for height and were either not stable, or too flimsy to hold any weight.

The secret to a good tower is to roll the newspaper tightly and to stick two or three rolled lengths together to increase strength.
