Cubs, Hikes

First Hike of the Year

20 January 2019

First hike of the year, a simple, but interesting walk with good views, not that Cubs would notice being too content talking continuously to their friends! One of my favourite short walks.

From Sowerby Bridge a steep climb up the road to Scar Head and then an even steeper climb up a foot path brought us out close to the Hobbit – its steep, but now we are at the top! A short bit of road leads to a lovely mainly level path that heads off up the valley to the top of Highlee Clough. From here there are a number of descents down to the old railway track, we chose to walk on to Highlee Lane and come down this way.

We made good time and a short diversion was made to Allan Park, so that the Cubs could play. It’s easy to time ourselves back from here and we arrived dead on time.

5.2 miles, 915 feet gained/lost. Total time including the park, 3½ hours.
