It was a rough start this year; the weather forecast was for heavy rain on the Saturday morning so we postponed the start by 2 hours. Then as we are all trying to make our way to the meeting place we find that the motorway is shut in both directions and ALL the traffic is trying to pass through the middle of Sowerby Bridge. AND THEN a lorry gets stuck under the railway bridge closing half of the road.
Thank goodness that was the last of the problems. 17 Cubs and 7 Leaders set off to catch the train to Mytholmroyd, a change of route as we no longer had the time to do the planned one. A stiff climb up onto the moor top and a rather windy lunch before we arrived at the top of Crow Hill, the highest point, in the sunshine with Halifax way below under black cloud.
A nice walk along the moor saw us at our overnight destination about teatime. The Cubs were tired, complaining of sore legs and feet until we got the football out, then they miraculously recovered! Tea was eaten and then we got the projector out and settled down to watch a film before bed.
Sunday morning after breakfast and packing up some of the leaders took the Cubs to a nearby park while the rest cleaned the church hall, then a gentle walk back along the old, and very muddy, railway track. Total distance 10 miles (6½ on Saturday and 3½ on Sunday)
