Our annual 2-day hike as part of Jamboree on the Trail (JOTT).
12 Cubs, 2 Explorers and 4 Leaders caught the train to Mytholmroyd and walked up Stoodley Pike in strong winds and rain showers. We were on the point of turning back or changing our route when the sun came out.
It was very windy on the top – if you jumped in the air you landed two feet away. Dropping down the hill got us out of the wind but into a hail storm! Five minutes later the sun came out again and stayed that way for the rest of the day.
We walked down into Cragg Vale via Withens Clough Reservoir before climbing up to Waterstalls Road on the Sowerby hilltops. Dropping down the far side we arrived at our overnight stop at St Mary’s Church at Cottonstones.
We tried to tire these Cubs out with this 9-mile hike, but they still had enough energy to play football before tea. However watching a couple of films was enough to send everyone to sleep.
Sunday morning after breakfast we walked the 3½ miles down the old railway track, back to Sowerby Bridge, via a stop at a local park.
